Our Mission

Salmon

Founded in 2015, SST is quickly becoming the elite training program for players in the NYC/Long Island area. We understand that finding great training can be a daunting task for parents and players. We offer trustworthy and intense training that is designed around each player’s strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, we provide mentor-ship to players not only through training but giving feedback after their games we’ve watched, and practices we’ve visited. Our aim is to raise the level of players in the community and help New York be the national youth soccer powerhouse everyone knows it can be. At Salmon Soccer Training we treat our players as what they are… FAMILY.

Salmon, born in Flushing, NY and raised in Westbury, Long Island grew up playing for B.W. Gottschee in Queens where he also starred for the ENY State, ODP Region 1, U14 and U16 USA National Teams. Yannick excelled for Westbury High School, leading the team to a conference championship in 2005 and winning Nassau County Player of the Year in 2006 (the first player to do so in the school’s history). Before attending the University Of Maryland (18 games, NCAA sweet 16) Salmon represented the Jamaica U-17 National Team in the Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers. Soon after transferring to Rutgers University in 2008, he would also star for the Jamaica U-20 National Team. Salmon would go on to become the 2nd straight Rutgers player drafted to the MLS in 2011, before signing a professional contract in the Finnish Premier League.

Salmon, a three-year starter and two-time All-BIG EAST selection for the Scarlet Knights, concluded a standout career ‘On the Banks’, leading RU in scoring his senior year with six goals. Salmon also posted six goals during a memorable junior campaign in which he earned Player of the Week honors from four separate outlets after leading the Scarlet Knights to a pair of BIG EAST victories against Providence and Connecticut. He was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Player of the Week, College Soccer News National Player of the Week and ECAC Player of the Week. Salmon posted 12 career goals en route to earning Second Team All-BIG EAST honors in 2009 and Third Team accolades in 2010. The Westbury, N.Y. native appeared in 51 career games for Rutgers.

Returning stateside in 2014, Yannick soon turned his attention towards coaching and developing young players in the New York area. Coaching initially with Woodhaven FC and then Met Oval Academy, he was able to work with many of NYC’s most talented players. He was able to notice quickly that while teams offered great training for development, players often needed outside training to take their skills and physical ability to the next level.

Yannick founded Salmon Soccer in 2015 with the goal of helping the players and clubs of New York get to the next level. His passion to see the area excel on the national stage is grounded in being born and raised in one of the greatest soccer communities in the country.
